Cat therapy
What is Gatotherapy?
Cat therapy is one more variant of assisted activities for therapeutic purposes. These activities should be designed, planned and developed by a technician in animal assisted therapy.
Cat therapy is ideal for children, it is a great responsibility for them because they must take care of it, feed it and educate it, which is not always an easy task. The fact of having these responsibilities increases the self-esteem of the chic @ s, because they feel that the cat needs them in some way.
It is also very suitable for the elderly because the purring of cats helps to better manage emotions, lowers blood pressure, generates endorphins and improves the immune system. It encourages the desire to communicate and helps eliminate stress.

How do you choose a cat
for cat therapy?
Each person has an assigned cat for their sessions. In La Gatera we have a team of cats prepared for cat therapy sessions. The cat is chosen taking into account the needs of the person and the interaction of the client and cat.
The specialist will be the one to determine which animals are suitable for the specific activities. Additionally, you will need to make sure that this animal is perfectly trained to safely interact with other people you don't know.
Therapy animals are specially chosen by the Animal Assisted Therapy Technician.
Not all cats in La Gatera can be therapy cats. A good animal for cat therapy must be friendly, calm, patient and confident. The decision is based on the company that the cat and the person offer and the way in which they interact.
How are the
sessions?
The frequency of the sessions are established based on the client's needs and the objectives set for the client.
It can be weekly or biweekly and last for an hour and a half.
